Gwendoline Christie has revealed which moment in Game of Thrones' final season left her "angry" on behalf of her character.

The actor, who portrayed Brienne of Tarth in the fantasy drama, looked back at her character's journey in an interview with Deadline.

In season eight, Brienne is knighted by Jaime Lannister during the second episode, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdom" – a long-awaited, momentous occasion.

However, in episode four, "The Last of the Starks", after Brienne and Jaime become intimate, Jaime makes the decision to return to Cersei Lannister even though Brienne urges him not to. Jaime dies in the following episode, "The Bells".

Christie told Deadline that the juxtaposition of those scenes – Brienne being knighted not long before sharing her final moment with Jaime – had left her feeling "incredibly upset about it on the character’s behalf".

"I did feel angry for the character in that moment, but what was brilliant is that she goes straight back to work, and ultimately, she supersedes her ambition," she added.

Christie indicated that she has since made her peace with the storyline, explaining that she had realised she had become "deeply, deeply protective" of [her] character.

"I was also thrilled about it as an actor, because it meant getting to use some real acting muscles," she said.
