Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon - who is now one of the leading cast members in a new BBC drama called Men Up - has opened up about filming an "awkward" scene for the television film.

For some context, the one-off drama, which aired on BBC One on 29 December, follows the story of the "first-ever drug trial in the world for Viagra" in Swansea, Wales, in 1994. It focuses on a "group of new friends who meet at the trial," plus the effect the "revolutionary pill has on their relationships at home."

In terms of Rheon's character, he plays Meurig Jenkins, a loving husband who takes part in the study in the hopes of reviving his sexless marriage and saving his relationship with his wife.

Following the release of the drama, the 38-year-old has addressed one of the more intimate scenes in detail. Specifically when his long-term friend and fellow cast mate, Aneurin Barnard - who plays Dr Dylan Pearce - measured Rheon's penis during a consultation.

Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: "You've got to be professional," before explaining that it was slightly "awkward" because of their "long history."

"We pretty much did our first job together in drama school in London, on stage, in Spring Awakening. We hadn't actually worked together since then, which was about 15 years now. He was definitely trying to make me laugh," the actor revealed.

"It was fun. It was really nice to get to work with him again," he continued, adding that "it was a funny, awkward scene."

However, Rheon did explain that due to the sensitivity of the scene, he had "to try to respect what's going on, and play it truthfully."

"There was a great company of actors, and great producers, and a beautiful script, and a great director who we felt really safe with. Everything kind of came together," he concluded.

Men Up is now streaming on BBC iPlayer.
