Alexander Siddig had a rough go on Game of Thrones, but things are looking up now that he's landed a role on Batman prequel series Gotham.

He's been cast in a recurring role as the DC Comics show's next big villain - and not just any villain! He'll be playing the semi-immortal leader of the League of Assassins, the Demon's Head himself Ra's al Ghul.

Ra's will be unmasked as the puppet master behind Gotham City's criminal underbelly as young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) investigates the shadowy Court of Owls (via TVLine).

As Batman fans know, Ra's eventually becomes one of Batman's most dangerous enemies… but, like most things, we'll be seeing them square off far earlier on Gotham.

DC TV fans will also no doubt know that the ArrowVerse has its own Ra's al Ghul in actor Matt Nable, but Gotham shares no continuity with Arrow and its fellow CW shows.

Arrow has featured both of the daughters of the Demon this season - Nyssa al Ghul (Katrina Law) and Talia al Ghul (Lexa Doig). Seeing as Talia is one of Bruce Wayne's enduring love interests, it's possible she'll pop up in Gotham at some point too to make Selina (Camren Bicondova) jealous.

Alexander Siddig is fresh off a rather, err, grisly exit from Game of Thrones after playing the Dornish prince Doran for a few seasons - and also recently popped up in Peaky Blinders and the Tut miniseries.

Gotham returns from its spring hiatus on Monday, April 24 in the US. Channel 5 airs the series in the UK.
