England have managed to secure a spot in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals, thanks to an extra-time header from Harry Kane against Slovakia. However, their performance has been less than stellar, considering they were one of the favourites before the tournament began.

So, we're asking you in our comments section - what changes should Gareth Southgate make to ensure a smoother path to the final?

The Three Lions are set to face Switzerland on Saturday, July 6 at 5pm. The Swiss team is currently riding high after a strong group stage performance and a 2-0 victory over defending champions Italy, securing their place in the quarter-finals.

Despite topping their group with one win and two draws, England's performance was drab, with low scoring games and a near miss in the last-16 round against Slovakia, who rank as the 45th best team globally according to FIFA rankings. A spectacular goal from Jude Bellingham kept England in the game, with Harry Kane clinching the win in extra time.

Despite dominating possession and completing almost double the number of passes as their opponents, England struggled to pose a significant threat, managing only two shots on target.

Southgate has also faced criticism for his slow response in introducing substitutes when the team was losing. Substitutes Cole Palmer, Eberechi Eze and Ivan Toney made a positive impact when they finally got their chance on the pitch.

England's players are putting on a positive front, despite a whirlwind of opinion about their key men. Kane, who confronted media over their harsh censure of the players earlier in the tournament, declared Bellingham's goal to be “one of the best in our country’s history”.

“Jude does what Jude does,” the Bayern Munich striker told ITV. “What an unbelievable goal. It's kept our tournament alive. I know the fans back home would have enjoyed that. What a win. One of the best in our country's history I reckon."

"What a player he is, he works so hard for the team. There's been a lot of talk about him the last couple of days, but it shows what he can do."

Pundits have expressed doubts about England's prospects, with Shearer commenting in his BBC column: "England are into the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 and ultimately that is all that matters but, for 95 minutes, that was a desperate performance against Slovakia."

"You never give up hope in any game when you are only 1-0 down, but there were next to no signs that we were going to find an equaliser from anywhere until that piece of brilliance."
