Yahoo News Gary Barlow reveals Let It Shine musical details
Now that Gary Barlow has finally found his five boys to star in a Take That musical via Let It Shine, he's now revealed that the show will actually be about five girls.
Wait, what?
It turns out that The Band will actually tell the story about five young girls, with the music of Take That as the main storytelling device, all sung by the Five To Five boys, who triumphed in the BBC show on Saturday night.
So, if you were concerned that the boys might not have much acting experience, then don't worry – because they won't actually be acting. And it us got us all rather intrigued and excited, especially as former EastEnders hunk Jack Ryder is directing, of all people, with Tim Firth as its writer.
Speaking to Digital Spy straight after the live final on Saturday, Gary Barlow gave us some teasers about what to expect from the show:
"The interesting thing about what these guys are gonna do is, there's no spoken acting for these guys at all. It's all done through song which is interesting for us because, especially tonight when they did a song from a musical, how do you act out a song? They did brilliantly.
"We've watched them come on every week, and when we started this process, when you think of the risk we've actually taken, I hope for a really good band, we've got a brilliant band.
"My email is full of offers for these guys, every major record company has already been enquiring. Their role will go way beyond this musical, and that makes me proud. Because that means within this show, we're actually making careers and giving people a real chance."
Gary also revealed that all the main girl roles have been cast expect one, but that they will not be being played by anyone famous. So don't expect any familiar faces.
But could any of the boys from the other bands including Drive and Nightfall appear in the show? Quite possibly.
"We're having three understudies who are gonna be joining us, hopefully from the show, hopefully from the bands that have been there tonight. I've cast for two of my musicals, I've cast people that have been in this series already.
"I know there's interest in all the finalists that have been on stage tonight. Lots of interest from agents, I feel like we're gonna see some great careers from this."
The Band will start with a tour of the UK from August, starting in Manchester, before eventually landing at the West End in London at a future date. Tickets for the tour will go on sale on April 3. Full tour details can be found via its official website.
Gary added: "I wanna get these guys in the show now – that's the next year's work. Even when we open in Manchester, the one thing I've learned in musicals is, you tour them around the country, keep tweaking and tweaking, making it better, making it tighter. It's all about this now being the best show on in the theatre. This will come to the West End."
Gary also confirmed that the show will feature 14 Take That classics, but sadly we don't know which ones yet.
