Everyone is talking about Kate Middleton's uncle Gary Goldsmith being a star on Celebrity Big Brother.

As the younger brother of Carole Middleton, the businessman is the uncle of the Princess of Wales and he attended her royal wedding to Prince William at Westminster Abbey with the whole world watching in 2011. The uncle also was a guest at Pippa's wedding to James Matthews in 2017.

Goldsmith has been a success in his own right though as the 58-year-old is a millionaire businessman who made most of his money in recruitment. Worlds away from the royal family, the businessman lives in a villa named Maison de Bang Bang in Ibiza. The millionaire has been married four times and has one daughter, 19-year-old Tallulah.

Goldsmith had started out his career as an IT operator at IT recruitment company Computer Futures. He became a director and had shares in the company that he later sold for millions.

But royal fans are hoping he will be giving an insight into the famous family behind closed doors on Celebrity Big Brother. Goldsmith was reportedly read riot act by Middletons’ ahead of his Celebrity Big Brother appearance. It begs the question, what has he said about the royal family before?

Goldsmith didn't hold back when he wrote a scathing article on the MailOnline about Prince Harry's book Spare in January last year. He questioned why did Prince Harry write such a "terrible book"?

The uncle took aim at Prince Harry for writing about the row which reportedly broke out between Meghan and Kate over the bridesmaid dresses. He gave his backing to Kate saying she was not a "drama queen" and he insisted she would never have made a fuss about the dresses. He said: "I’m particularly appalled by his vile confection of half-truths and complete fabrications because Kate is my adored niece."

He added in The Daily Mail column: "Harry claims to be reporting an exchange of texts when he writes that Meghan told Kate to go to the Palace, where her tailor, Ajay, was standing by to alter the dresses. But this — according to Harry — was not good enough for Kate, who tersely demanded that the dress be completely remade.

"Nonsense. I honestly don’t believe this version of the ‘facts’. Kate is self-sufficient, resourceful and extremely capable. She comes from a family of doers and fixers and has an amazing support system in her younger sister Pippa and her mum, my older sister Carole, who runs her own successful business. She has taught her girls to deal with problems with calm capability, not histrionics.."

In memoir Spare, Prince Harry had disclosed the texts which he said were shared between Meghan and Kate over the bridesmaid dresses. He also said he had "arrived home and found Meg on the floor sobbing" over the disagreement.

Goldsmith has a lot of admiration for his niece and her husband, saying they were "very good together" in a previous interview. Speaking to HELLO! magazine in 2013, the millionaire gushed over his niece saying she was very hard working and brilliant.

He told the magazine:"She is this confident, clever, caring girl who has taken her responsibilities in marriage and job incredibly seriously. I think everyone thinks she's sincere, in love and doing her job to the best of her ability."

He added: "Kate works really hard at everything. She is brilliant at whatever she turns her hand to, but works at it, throwing herself into everything. Whereas Pippa, everything seems to come very easily."

Goldsmith's Celebrity Big Brother appearance comes just weeks after the news that the Princess of Wales was recovering from "planned abdominal surgery" which took place in January. The Princess of Wales was in hospital for 12 days before she returned to her home at Adelaide Cottage, in Windsor.

In the latest update from Buckingham Palace, a spokesperson for Kate told the BBC in response on Thursday night: "Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the princess's recovery. We said we'd only be providing significant updates. That guidance stands."

Buckingham Palace shared a statement on 17 January that Kate was admitted to a private London Clinic on the day before. The Princess will return to her royal duties after Easter and has not been seen in public since Christmas Day when she was carrying out royal duties as she was on her way to church in Sandringham, Norfolk.
