Gary Lineker appeared to make an awkward balding joke towards Frank Lampard on the BBC's Euro 2024 coverage last night as the studio fell silent.

Chelsea legend Lampard was part of the punditry team for the broadcaster's coverage of Germany's 2-0 win over Hungary on Wednesday.

The studio faces the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, and is close to a fan park which shows games from the tournament. Lineker and the team face away from the monument for broadcasts, with a scenic background shot of the landmark on live TV coverage.

A big screen separates the BBC team and the fans, with Lineker explaining that he wished they would take it down so they could "see all the punters".

"If they took the screen down they wouldn't be able to watch the game," said Lineker.

Lampard joked: "They'd see the back of our heads! They wouldn't turn up for that!"

Lineker replied: "No-one wants to see the back of your head these days, do they Frank? That's for sure."

The laughter in the studio fell silent as Lineker continued with the analysis of the game. The footage of the broadcast zooms in on Lampard, whose expression changes from smiling to straight-faced very quickly.

The clip has since been viewed 3.3 million times, with fans hysterical after the exchange.

"That is savage from Gary," said one.

"Savage! Poor Lampard" added another.
