Stratford-on-Avon is set to get a new MP in the upcoming General Election whatever the outcome as long-serving Nadhim Zahawi steps down. The former Chancellor of the Exchequer, who has represented the constituency since 2010, said the ‘time is right’ for someone else to take up the role .

Chris Clarkson will be running on behalf of the Conservatives on July 4. You can see a full list of candidates below.

Stratford is a historic safe seat for the Conservatives, although it was briefly Labour under former MP Alan Howarth, who was elected as a Tory but defected to Labour in 1995.

The Conservatives won back the seat under John Maples in 1997 and he represented Stratford until stepping down in 2010 when Nadhim Zahawi became MP.

Mr Zahawi won the 2010 election with a 51.5% share of the vote which had increased to over 60% in the last two General Elections.

The Stratford-on-Avon constituency covers not only the town itself but also the surrounding villages and rural areas as far north as Earlswood and Wood End, Alcester and Bidford-on-Avon in the West, including Shipston-on-Stour and as far south as Whichford and Long Compton.
