Gentle Nurse Prepares Koala for Surgery

Gilbert the koala was treated with serious TLC at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary prior to his surgery at the zoo’s hospital for injuries suffered when he was hit by a car on the Gold Coast.

He was prepped very gently by a caring nurse at the hospital, before going into theatre … and seems to be a big fan of his human saviour.

“Thanks to being rescued and treated Gilbert is lucky to be alive and is slowly recovering from his injuries. Gilbert is receiving fluid therapy and pain relief along with other treatments and lots of TLC,” the zoo wrote on Facebook.

Save the Koala lists cars as one of the main threats to koalas’ welfare, stating about 4000 are killed each year by “cars and dogs”. The Queensland Government states 80 per cent of car hits are fatal to koalas. Credit: Facebook/Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary via Storyful
