Think you've seen it all when it comes to zombie films? Well, you're about to be proved wrong.

Because legendary zombie-flick director George A. Romero, the genius behind Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, has a new idea (via IndieWire).

Not unsurprisingly, it's about zombies. But a little more unexpectedly, the undead will be racing cars to keep rich people entertained.

George A. Romero Presents: Road of the Dead is being co-written and produced by Romero, with his long-term collaborator Matt Birman directing and co-writing.

The film is set on an island where zombie prisoners race cars in a type of coliseum, where they drive for the enjoyment of onlooking wealthy humans.

Birman has called the film's concept "Road Warrior meets Rollerball at a NASCAR race, with significant inspiration from Ben-Hur."

Well if that isn't an incredible description, we don't know what is.

Considering he has a type of zombie named after him, Romero is pretty much considered the pioneer of the genre.

We haven't seen zombies doing anything like driving before, although we have seen them shoot guns and ride horses.

The creatures may as well add another string to their bow now – the question is, will they be any good behind the wheel?

Road of the Dead currently has no release date so there's no telling when we'll find out, but we've certainly got enough information to whet our appetite for now.
