George Santos responds to HBO movie report in off-the-rails Ziwe interview: ‘It’s a f---ing fiction’

The disgraced former Republican congressman says the book on which the project is based "has no perspective of me or anybody close to me."

Since the moment George Santos was officially expelled from the U.S. House of Representatives on Dec. 1, Americans have wondered where the headline-grabbing Republican politician might end up next. In a new interview with Ziwe Fumudoh, Santos gave some answers.

For one thing, Santos does not approve of the movie HBO is reportedly working on about him. Coming from Succession executive producer Frank Rich, the movie is said to adapt Mark Chiusano’s book The Fabulist: The Lying, Hustling, Grifting, Stealing, and Very American Legend of George Santos, which was just published last month. The former congressman isn't impressed.

“That movie’s not ever gonna happen," Santos told Fumudoh. "The book has no perspective of me or anybody close to me. It’s a f---ing fiction.”

Some have suggested that Santos could be a future contestant on Dancing with the Stars, considering that the ABC competition show has previously hosted other Republican political figures like Donald Trump's one-time press secretary Sean Spicer. But ABC told EW earlier this month that the show's producers have not discussed the possibility. Santos confirmed to Fumudoh that he currently has no interest either. So the ball's in your court, The Masked Singer!

Santos was elected to the House during the 2022 midterm elections, scoring a surprise victory as a Republican candidate in a heavily Democratic New York district. Only after he won was it revealed that he had repeatedly lied about himself in his campaign, including fabricating details about his education, professional career, and personal ties to victims of the Holocaust and Sept. 11 attacks, among other things.

Some of Santos' lies are more serious than others. In October, federal prosecutors indicted him on 23 counts of identity theft and financial fraud. That indictment eventually led to his expulsion from Congress, making Santos only the sixth House member in American history to be so ejected.

And yet, in the wake of his departure, Santos has popped up on the app Cameo, where he charges $500 a pop. His interview with Fumudoh marks her first since her show Ziwe was canceled by Showtime back in April. He doesn't rule out the possibility of returning to politics, saying, "I’ll be back. I’m 35, they’re all in their 50s. I’ll outlive them, each and last [sic] one of them.”

In the meantime, Fumudoh asked the question surely on many minds: “What can we do to get you to go away?”

“Stop inviting me to your gigs,” Santos replied. Later in the interview, he added, "But you can’t, because people want the content.”
