George Skivington explains why Lloyd Evans has left Gloucester Rugby

Gloucester Rugby have announced that versatile back Lloyd Evans has departed the Premiership club to join a United Rugby Championship side.

Former Dean Close School pupil Evans came through the Gloucester Rugby Academy to make his Cherry and Whites debut in 2013 against Northampton Saints. He made his Premiership debut two years later as a replacement against Bath Rugby and during a decade in the senior squad made just shy of 100 first-team appearances, becoming a valuable player due to his reliability at both fly-half and full-back. Last season, Evans made 11 appearances, including the Premiership Rugby Cup Final win over Leicester Tigers at Kingsholm before his campaign was cut short by injury.

Gloucester director of rugby, George Skivington, said: “Lloyd’s been around the Club for a long time, and I’ve always appreciated his commitment and willingness to turn out wherever necessary for the team.

“We’re well stacked at fly half and full back next season, with Santi Carreras, Gareth Anscombe, Charlie Atkinson and George Barton all able to cover both positions. So, naturally it makes a lot of sense for Lloyd to move on and play regular rugby, at an exciting new environment for him. We wish him all the best for the future.”
