Geraldo Rivera May Run For New Jersey Senate

Journalist Geraldo Rivera is seriously considering running for a US Senate seat in New Jersey.

The Fox News Channel host said on Thursday during his daily radio show that he is "truly contemplating" filing for candidacy.

He said he has had conversations with New Jersey Republicans about a run.

Rivera could potentially seek the seat currently held by Senator Frank Lautenberg, an 89-year-old Democrat. The oldest sitting US senator has not yet said whether he will seek re-election.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker, also a Democrat, has said he is exploring a Senate run but had not said whether he would challenge Mr Lautenberg in a primary should the incumbent seek another term.

The mustachioed news presenter has asked his 30,000 Twitter followers to weigh in on the idea.
