The mad morning dash to get to get children to school is equivalent to an extra day’s work every week, a study has found.

Stressed parents complete an average of 43 tasks before they even get to the office, research among 2,000 working parents found.

The daily checklist includes making breakfast, ironing clothes, preparing food for the evening as well as then taking the children to school.

It can also include putting a wash-on and getting a to-do list ready for the next day.

Most parents questioned said they often felt they had done a day’s work by 11am.

It also found that parents get up at 6am on average, with a third waking up before 5.30am.

The number of tasks completed before school amounts to 10 hours 15 mins every week, which is equivalent to more than the average working day.

The study was conducted by Kellogg’s.

‘It’s clearly a case of wake and work for British parents who are packing in a whole additional working day every week on top of their 9-5 jobs,’ a spokesman for the cereal firm said.

It also found that before having children, parents completed an average of 10 tasks, less than a quarter of their morning checklist after having kids.

The report was published to mark the launch of new Nutri-Grain snack bars.

Another recent study said parents might be halted from driving their children to school in major cities in a bid to improve air quality.

A Guardian report found that thousands of school in Manchester, Edinburgh and London were trying to deter parents from using cars for the school run.
