A white 'ghost bike' memorial to remember a man killed while cycling was unveiled on Saturday (June 29). Mike Gough died after a crash on George Street in Huntingdon in March 2024.

The 65-year-old died at the scene of the crash, which also involved a Ford Transit van. He owned Roadies Cycles in Hartford and was described in a tribute as a 'passionate' cyclist.

Mr Gough's wife, Hazel, said at the vigil held to remember Mike: "This ghost bike, although dedicated to Mike, should be extended to all road users tragically killed on the roads of Huntingdonshire. In an instant, lives of our loved ones can be taken from us. Take a moment to reflect on this and live lives to the full."

Similar 'ghost bikes' have been placed in other locations around Cambridgeshire to remember cyclists killed in crashes. These include one on Oakington Road near Girton, where 14-year-old Isla Cochrane was killed in 2022.

Mrs Gough added: "A bicycle is more than a mode of transport. It is a symbol of freedom, camaraderie and a means of enjoyment of the open road.

"The bike is a simple solution to some of the world's most complicated problems. The bicycle ride is as good a place as any to find happiness and get a glimpse of some of the world's magic."
