Ghosts has released a trailer for its Christmas special, offering fans a first-look at the final ever episode.

The paranormal sitcom, which stars Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe as a young couple named Alison and Mike, follows the pair as they learn to share their country house with a gang of ghosts from different time periods.

Back in October, it was confirmed that the BBC series would be saying a festive farewell to Button House following its fifth and final season.

Now, fans have been treated to a teaser trailer for the Christmas special in which a few key bits of information about the upcoming episode are revealed.

In the trailer, we see Alison, who spent much of season 5 pregnant, and her husband Mike arriving home at Button House with their newborn baby Mia, who is introduced to the group of ghosts.

Also making an appearance in the trailer is Mike's mum Betty, played by Sutara Gayle, who is returning to the role having previously debuted back in 2020.

"Christmas is just around the corner and Mike’s mum, Betty is staying. Although she is just trying to be helpful, Mike and Alison soon lose patience with her interfering ways. There’s no easy way to ask her to go home, so the couple (and the Ghosts) struggle on, with Button House feeling fuller than ever." reads the episode's official synopsis.

"Now a Christmas convert, Robin is missing that all important 'Christmassy' feeling, so the gang share their secrets to getting into the festive spirit. But when even more decorations and merry music don’t do the trick, the Ghosts wonder if Robin will be able to capture that Christmas magic again?"

Previously speaking about the show coming to an end, Ritchie told Digital Spy: "They [the writers] pulled out all the stops to make it a thoughtful and loving ending. I think it's great.

Ghosts' fifth and final series will premiere on October 6 at 8.30pm on BBC One, with a series boxset available on BBC iPlayer.
