A 13-year-old girl has appeared in court charged with three counts of attempted murder after a stabbing at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman school in south-west Wales.

The girl, who cannot be named or identified for legal reasons, appeared at Llanelli magistrates’ court on Friday.

She was also charged with the possession of a bladed article during the short hearing.

The girl will next appear at Swansea Crown Court on May 27.

Police have also arrested a 15-year-old boy over social media messages which allegedly referenced the stabbing.

Superintendent Ross Evans said officers are trying to establish if there is a connection between the two.

The Telegraph understands that he is the brother of the girl who is alleged to have carried out the school attack.

Two teachers and a pupil were stabbed at Amman Valley School, also known as Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, in Carmarthenshire on Wednesday.

Teachers Fiona Elios and Liz Hopkin and a student, who has not been named, suffered stab wounds in the incident during morning break.

All three victims have been discharged from hospital.

Mrs Hopkin suffered “four deep stab wounds” in the attack, her husband John told The Telegraph on Thursday.

“She’s seriously hurt,” he said. “She’s recovering now, but it’s going to take quite a while. She’s very badly injured. Four quite deep stab wounds, but they missed anything vital. It’s going to take a fair few weeks for the wounds to heal.”

The school remained closed on Friday as teachers prepared the building for pupils to return.

Carmarthenshire County Council did not confirm whether the school would be reopened on Monday.
