Girl, 5, suffers 'life changing' injuries after being mauled by 'XL Bully'

A five year old girl was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being attacked by a suspected XL Bully in Partington, Trafford area of Greater Manchester. The incident occurred around 3.40pm on Sunday and the dog, believed to be an XL bully breed, was later seized by officers.

A 28 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control and child neglect, while a 34 year old woman was also arrested on similar charges but has since been bailed. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), as there had been previous contact regarding the dog.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 3.40pm on Sunday 14 April 2024, officers responded to reports of a dog attacking a five-year-old girl inside a property on Walnut Road, Partington. The girl suffered serious life-changing injuries which were not life-threatening, while the dog was seized.

"A man aged 28 and a woman aged 34 have been arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in any place. The man has additionally been arrested on suspicion of child neglect.

"The woman has since been bailed. Due to previous police contact regarding the dog, a referral has been made to the IOPC."
