Girl robbed of her gold iPhone as she lay on the ground with broken legs after being run over

A teenage girl was robbed of her gold iPhone as she lay helpless on the ground suffering two broken legs after being knocked down by an alleged drink-driver.

City College Plymouth student Ruby-Tuesday Hobbs, 18, has had to endure hours of surgery and a blood transfusion after being struck by a blue BMW on Christmas Eve.

She had been standing on the pedestrian island in the middle of the carriageway between Plymouth College of Art and Drake Circus Shopping Centre when she was mowed down.

As she lay on the ground by a central reservation at around 6.30am, her gold iPhone went missing.

Police have now arrested a 35-year-old man at an address in the city centre on suspicion of the theft of a mobile phone.

Surgeons worked on Ruby-Tuesday’s left leg where she suffered severe fractures below the knee following the incident.

A metal plate was inserted into her right thigh and she was given a blood transfusion.

A 27-year-old man from Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving under the influence.

He has since been bailed until January 23 while police continue to appeal for witnesses.
