Girl, six, dies after getting into difficulty in sea at Margate Harbour
A six-year-old girl has died after getting into difficulty in the sea in Margate.
Emergency services were called to Margate Harbour amid concerns for a child in the sea on Saturday afternoon.
The girl, from Erith in south-east London, was taken to hospital in a serious condition but Kent Police confirmed on Sunday that she had died.
The force said: “Kent Police was called at 3.13pm on Saturday July 28 to concerns for a girl in the sea at Margate Harbour.
“Officers and the South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene and the six-year-old from Erith was taken to hospital, where she later died.”
The force said the girl’s next of kin had been informed, adding: “There are no suspicious circumstances and a report is being prepared for the coroner.”
The tragedy is the latest death involving people getting into difficulty in the water.

Two bodies were recovered on Saturday in separate incidents.
The body of a 15-year-old teenager, provisionally named as Ben Quartermaine, was found near Clacton Pier in Essex after a search which began on Thursday.
And in Bedfordshire the body of a man aged in his late 20s was recovered from the Great Ouse river after reports of someone getting into difficulty on Friday afternoon.
