Footballers at Holyrood Academy are leaving the school on a high after their team won a cup final.

The Glasgow Southside school under 18s team beat Bearsden Academy on Monday evening earning praise from the head and local councillor Soryia Siddique.

They won 1-0 to claim the Cameronian Cup.

Councillor Siddique presented the trophy after the match, which took place at Celtic Park.

Dr Siddique, Labour, said: “It was brilliant that Holyrood won against Bearsden. I am delighted – it is a great school.

“Congratulations and well done to the players, teachers and the school community. Another successful year.”

Councillor Christina Cannon, city convener for education and early years said: “Well done to the senior football team – this is a brilliant achievement and a very proud moment for the school.”

Holyrood headteacher Sharon Watson said on social media: “What a great match and what a great end to the school career of our S6 players. I was so proud of everyone.”
