Bruno Fernandes and his Portugal teammates had their Euro 2024 preparations thrown into disarray when fans invaded the pitch during an open training session.

Roberto Martinez's squad, who are among the favourites to clinch the European Championship in Germany this summer, aren't due to play until Tuesday night when they face off against Czechia in Leipzig.

In the lead-up to their first match, fans were invited to observe the team train at their tournament base in Westphalia. A total of 6,000 tickets were distributed for the session, but an estimated 8,000 supporters reportedly showed up.

However, the event spiralled into chaos when around 12 fans dashed onto the pitch, much to the disapproval of the onlooking crowd, with former Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo being the player most sought-after.

Security personnel raced after those who made their way onto the pitch in an attempt to remove them, though some managed to evade capture. Ronaldo even paused for a selfie with one pitch invader before they were escorted away. The forward then appealed for calm.

Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa took control of the situation by sprinting halfway across the pitch to rugby-tackle one fan to the ground.

Once the session resumed, Liverpool striker Diogo Jota was humorously booed by fans when he knocked Ronaldo to the ground while vying for the ball. At the conclusion of training, the Portugal team unfurled a banner that read 'Thank you, Germany' in both Portuguese and German.
