Glasgow MP Alison Thewlis hit with vile abuse after calling out ex-mobster's links to Andrew Tate

A Glasgow MP has said he received a barrage of shocking abuse after calling out an ex-mobster linked to misogynistic influencer Andrew Tate.

SNP politician Alison Thewliss said she was called 'a f****** parasite', 'a rat' and 'a piece of sh**'. It came after she challenged plans to allow Michael Franzese to perform in Glasgow.

Tate is facing rape and trafficking charges in Romania but maintains that he is innocent.

Ex-mafia boss Franzese, 73, was due to bring his sold-out Re-made Man tour to Glasgow’s Garage on Sunday. The gig was eventually cancelled after his links to Tate were revealed.

Thewliss mentioned the hate message she received during Prime Minister's Questions and called on Rishi Sunak to ban misogynists from entering the UK, the Daily Record reports.

She told MPs: "In the wee small hours of Saturday morning I received an email, and I apologise for my language, calling me 'a f****** parasite', 'a rat' and 'a piece of sh**'.

"This came in response to my challenging the appropriateness of a US citizen Michael Franzese who is doing a tour in the UK, and as part of that tour advocating publicly for the self-proclaimed misogynist influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate, who are encouraging toxic attitudes among young men in this country.

"Can I ask the Prime Minister, who has spoken about banning hate preachers from entering the UK, if he'll extend this to misogynists?"

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak replied: "Those who seek to divide us undermine our values and indeed intimidate and threaten others, have no place in our society and we will not hesitate to use not just the full force of the law, but also our immigration regime to make sure we have security and cohesion in this country."
