A popular community pub in the southside has been brought to the market.

The Croft pub in Croftfoot, which has been part of a family business for over 30 years, has been a popular venue for the local and wider community in the Rutherglen area.

The venue on Lugar Place, Croftfoot, has now been put up for sale by the Lisini Pub Company with an asking price in excess of £1.35m.

The late, great Harry Hood, who starred for the likes of Celtic and Motherwell and founded the pub company, bought the premises in 1978 but didn’t get planning permission to turn it into a pub for nearly 10 years, due to it originally being sited in a ‘dry district’.

However, he persevered and opened The Croft as a community pub serving food, showing sport and providing entertainment in 1991.

Over the years, The Croft has proved a very popular pub with many calling it one of the ‘Southside’s hidden gems'.

The agents in charge of the sale say the traditional but contemporary venue has "plenty to offer" prospective buyers including a 90-cover restaurant and a large public bar.

Managing Director of Lisini Pub Company, Grant Hood, thanked customers for all of their support over the years and added that they are grateful for the support of the local community.

He said: “The decision to sell The Croft has not been an easy one. The Croft has been a cherished part of the Hood family for many years and has been in sole ownership of The Hoods.

"Our commitment to the community and our patrons has always been at the heart of everything we do at Lisini.

“Since our inception in 1969, Lisini Pub Company has earned a reputation for exceptional service, quality hospitality, and strong community ties. The decision to sell The Croft is part of a broader strategy to streamline our operations and invest more deeply in our venues and the development and well-being of our employees."

He added that the sale will allow them to focus on their remaining venues, Angels Hotel, Dalziel Park Hotel, Parkville Hotel, and The Castle Rooms.

Grant said: “While the sale of The Croft marks a significant change, it also opens new opportunities for Lisini Pub Company and we are committed to enhancing the experiences at our remaining venues and exploring new ways to serve our customers and community better.

“We remain deeply committed to our community and our team members. Our team is the backbone of our company, and we are dedicated to providing them with the resources, training, and support they need to excel in their roles and advance their careers."

The Croft is on the market through Christie & Co, via their agent Brian Sheldon ( brian.sheldon@christie.com ) at an asking price in excess of £1.35m.
