It’s only eight days now until Glastonbury kicks off and festival-goers head down to Worthy Farm for headline sets from Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA.

We already know that we can expect a decidedly mixed bag of weather, while  Glastonbury also recently announced its full 2024 line-up and details of stage times.

Other stage-by-stage announcements includes the fact that the festival’s towering Arcadia spider will be replaced by a giant dragonfly, that the Genosys stage will return to Block9 and the end of The Rabbit Hole after 17 years at the festival, replaced by new venues The Wishing Well and Scissors in The Park.

But there’s another question: will the Euros and – specifically – England’s attempts to bring football home, be shown at the festival?

As it currently stands, it’s a no. Last month, Glastonbury confirmed that they’ll break with tradition and not show any football at this year’s festival.

“Should England or Scotland’s men’s teams qualify from the group stages of this summer’s European Football Championships in Germany, their matches in the Last 16 of the tournament could take place on the Saturday or Sunday evening of this year’s Festival,” they wrote.

“However, with England and Scotland’s Last 16 matches potentially clashing with headline sets at this year’s Festival, the decision has been made that – as in 2014 and 2016 – should England or Scotland qualify from their groups, their Last 16 matches will not be shown at the Festival.”

So that’s that, then. But if you do fancy listening on a portable radio or TV, you’ll want to know the following. If England top Group C, they’ll face off against the third placed team in group D/E/F at 5PM on June 30, the Sunday of the festival. If England finish second, however, they’ll face the winners of Group A on June 29 at 8pm UK time.

So that’s that, then. Less England, more Coldplay and more SZA. It’s not a bad trade-off, is it?
