After starring in the likes of Netflix's GLOW and Amazon Prime thriller The Tomorrow War, Betty Gilpin has signed on to appear in a new series based on Lisa Taddeo's book Three Women.

Gilpin, who played Debbie Eagan in wrestling dramedy GLOW, will star alongside Big Little Lies' Shailene Woodley and Jurassic World: Dominion's DeWanda Wise in the upcoming drama, Variety is reporting.

The Nurse Jackie star is set to portray one of three women, Lina, in the adaptation. Lina is a homemaker in Indiana who, unhappy in a passionless marriage, embarks on an affair that both consumes and transforms her life.

Described as a portrayal of American female desire, Three Women threads the stories of three different women as they confront the relationships in their lives. The non-fiction title focuses on Lina, glamorous entrepreneur Sloane, and North Dakota student Maggie.

DeWanda Wise will play Sloane, a woman whose otherwise content open marriage is thrown into doubt following the arrival of two "sexy new strangers". It's not yet known who will portray Maggie, a student who accuses her English teacher of an inappropriate relationship.

Shailene Woodley takes on the role of Gia, who does not appear in Taddeo's original book. Described as a writer grieving the loss of her family, Gia persuades each of the women to share their stories in a journey that will change the course of her own life forever.

Based on Lisa Taddeo's work of the same name, Three Women is set to air on Showtime in the US. Taddeo, who has adapted her story for the small screen, will executive produce the series, along with Kathy Ciric and Shameless' Emmy Rossum.

House of Cards writer Laura Eason will serve as showrunner, while Louise Friedberg is expected to direct the series' first two episodes.
