Godders and Adi gone as new-look coaching team installed - Coventry City Q&A

Coventry City reported back for pre-season this week, welcoming four new signings and saying goodbye to one existing member of the squad with Matty Godden’s move to Charlton Athletic.

The Sky Blues now have a six week run-in to the new 2024/25 Championship campaign when they will hope to hit the ground running – something that has evaded them in the previous two seasons.

There’s been changes behind the scenes, too, with the shock and seemingly sudden departure of assistant manager Adi Viveash, which has thrown up a whole host of unanswered questions, and the arrival of two new first team coaches in former City favourite George Boateng and talented young coach from Wolves, Rhys Carr.

There are still plenty more gaps left to fill on the pitch as Mark Robins looks to strengthen his squad and add quality and depth in a number of positions, making for a potentially exciting few weeks to come. The manager will want the business done as soon as possible but as we all know from experience, that’s not always possible and some deals may have to come later in the window, which shuts at the end of August when the season is already well underway.

There’s also the possibility that existing players may be heading out the other way, of course, which could pave the way for others to come in.

Meanwhile, fans are still desperately waiting on news of the club’s new kits and eager to learn who is the new shirt sponsor.
