Gogglebox stalwarts Giles and Mary, a couple whose marriage spans three decades, have graced our screens for nine years, sharing their candid views from their quaint Wiltshire abode, affectionately dubbed 'The Grottage. ' Despite their often forthright presence on the Channel 4 show, it seems tranquility reigns when the cameras cease rolling.

During a conversation with Idler earlier in the year, Giles mused over his quiet lockdown life with Mary. "You see, I've had six months of not talking to anyone. That's the thing about living in the country, who do you talk to? " he pondered.

With no local pub to frequent or church services to attend, Giles quipped: "The pub's shut. I don't go to church. Who am I supposed to talk to?". For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter.

Even the suggestion of conversing with his wife elicited a wry response, as Giles remarked: "Mary hardly talks to me, we're incompatible." He disclosed that their rare discussions usually revolve around selecting evening television entertainment, saying, "We're distracting our lives away", reports the Liverpool Echo.

This isn't the first time the pair have touched on their unique dynamic; Mary once described the precarious balance of Giles's nature: "The thing about Giles is he's 48% bad but 52% good. It gets worse every year". Presently, Giles, Mary, and the rest of their Gogglebox counterparts are enjoying a hiatus following the wrap-up of series 23 earlier this month.

In the meantime, Celebrity Gogglebox has commandeered their usual Friday night slot, with the original version anticipated to make its comeback in September. Want less ads? Download WalesOnline’s Premium app on Apple or Android.
