Google is set to launch a new photo-sharing service as a spin-off from its struggling social network Google+.

According to reports from Bloomberg, the new standalone photo-sharing and storage service will introduce a range of new features including editing tools.

The new photo service will reportedly be unveiled at Google's annual I/O developers conference on 28-29 May.

The company's Google+ social network has struggled to compete with more well-established rivals. The new photo service would potentially give the tech giant more ammunition with which to take on Facebook, which bought mobile photo-sharing app Instagram in 2012.

Google's new service will reportedly enable users to share photos to rival social platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.

As always, Google is refusing to comment on the rumours.
