Google users 'fuming' after popular app shut down 'for good' today

Google plans to shut down popular app forever TODAY. Google Podcasts is merging with YouTube Music on Monday June 24 after the tech giant announced it would be retiring the popular app last September, in a brutal move and crushing blow for many users.

Using the Google Podcasts Manager, fans can transfer all their podcasts over to the YouTube Music app. This service will be available until July 29. One Twitter/X user fumed: "I don't care if I sound like a grandpa. Why does every music service so desperately want me to listen to podcasts in their app?

"I don't want to use my music app for podcasts. I want them separate. It's better when they are separate." A second raged: "I'm still fuming about Google Podcasts. Trying to listen to podcasts in the Youtube Music app is frustrating at best.

"I love it for music but it needs to stay in its lane. Podcasts need their own environment." A third fumed: "So Google Podcasts is at an end. Their solution: YouTube Music. Why... would I use an app I can't even use with my screen off?

"I'm not watching video, it's my overnight fix. Found a decent replacement anyway." In a YouTube blog post, the company wrote: "We will be discontinuing Google Podcasts in the US as early as April 2024.

"To make this transition as seamless as possible, today we’ll begin rolling out a tool that allows Google Podcast listeners in the US to migrate their subscriptions from Google Podcasts to YouTube Music or export them for use in other podcast apps.

"We’ll share more about Google Podcasts’ availability and the release of this migration tool for other countries soon." Google Podcasts launched back in June 2018 on Android. This was followed by an iOS (for iPhone) version in March 2020.
