As Gordon Ramsay wrapped up the first season of The F Word in the US this week, the delightfully foul-mouthed chef also admitted he regrets ending Kitchen Nightmares, the show that made him globally famous.

"I got fed up with Kitchen Nightmares because I was getting sh*t," Ramsay told the New York Daily News. "So I woke up one morning and I thought, 'F*ck it, I'm done.' "

The "sh*t" Ramsay is referring to is the criticism he received that the failing restaurants that he was supposed to save on Kitchen Nightmares USA, which aired on Fox from 2007 to 2014, ended up back in trouble after he left.

While Ramsay blames the restaurant operators for returning to their bad practices after he left, he admits that "it was wrong to pull my own show off air, but that's it".

He also hinted that his next project could be related to the hit show, which originally ran for three years on Channel 4 in the UK from 2004.

"The biggest demand over the last four years is for Kitchen Nightmares [to come back] and what I am putting together is a return of something magical," Ramsay said.

While he called his next project something "way, way, way better than Kitchen Nightmares", he admitted that it will be "along those lines".

There aren't any more details at this point as to what exactly the new project is, but Dana Walde, CEO of the Fox Television Group, revealed that a new show from the chef has been green-lit.

"We have a few different things in development with Gordon right now and we conceivably could see something new in the not too distant future," Walde said.
