Would it really make sense for Manchester United to sell Paul Pogba after all the time and effort they spent making him their “statement signing” of the Jose Mourinho era? Well if they manage to make a £51m profit on him, then maybe it would.

The Mail claims the Red Devils have put a “£140m price tag” on the French midfielder, who is tipped to leave Old Trafford this summer after his relationship with manager Jose Mourinho “reached breaking point”.

The player’s troubles on the pitch don’t seem to have done his marketability any harm though – with Pogba’s value in the past two years apparently rocketing at a faster rate than a 2-bedroom period property in Walthamstow.

One team, perhaps the only team, who would be willing to pay that kind of dough is Paris Saint-Germain, who ESPN says have “made contact” with Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola about signing the 25-year-old. It may be more a case of Raiola making contact with PSG though, as the prospect of his cut from a £140m transfer set the Euro signs bulging in his eyeballs.

West Ham want to keep Hart

Boy does Joe Hart need some good publicity right now. Something to interrupt the endless Twitter video loops of him spilling a routine save invitingly into the feet of Peter Crouch. Something to deflect from the fact that when West Ham posted a happy birthday message to him yesterday, it instantly received a flurry of replies advising him not to “drop the cake”. He just needs something, anything, to keep his World Cup dream alive a little longer.

And here it is in the Mirror: West Ham want to sign Hart permanently.

Hammers boss David Moyes has apparently been “impressed” by the goalkeeper during the times when he hasn’t been throwing the ball into his own net – which consists mainly of one game against Chelsea a couple of weeks ago.

Hart still has another year left on his Manchester City contract but the Hammers are “open to a deal being struck”, which sounds a little bit like they are relying on City being so desperate to offload the keeper that they will literally pay West Ham to take him.

But whenever something nice happens to Joe Hart, there is always a new disaster lurking around the corner, and this time it’s a report – also appearing in the Mirror – that Moyes may not be staying at the London Stadium.

The Hammers board have apparently “shelved” talks about extending the Scot’s contract beyond this season and are focusing instead on appointing a new head of recruitment.

Meanwhile, another player who is still in-demand despite some recent wobbly form is Watford forward Richarlison. The Mail says Man Utd are “leading the race” to sign the 20-year-old Brazilian for £40m ahead of Bayern Munich and PSG. Not bad for a lad who hasn’t scored since November and was recently dropped from the Hornets starting line-up.

Elsewhere, Real Madrid’s pursuit of Eden Hazard this summer will depend on whether they manage to offload Gareth Bale (Mail), Juventus are keen on re-signing Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata but are only interested in a “cut-price” deal (Sun) and Everton boss Sam Allardyce remains keen to sign Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere at the end of the season (Liverpool Echo). Hopefully that will win Big Sam some points in the next fan survey that decides his Goodison Park future.
