Not content just to conquer the Iron Throne, House Lannister will be sending its Kingslayer to conquer Springfield for an upcoming episode of The Simpsons.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is the second Game of Thrones star of the week to land a voice role in The Simpsons' historic 29th season, set to air on Fox in the US this autumn.

He was beaten to the punch by Ed Sheeran, who popped up in a much-maligned cameo in the Game of Thrones season seven opener 'Dragonstone' over the weekend.

However, Nikolaj's guest appearance in the upcoming 'The Serfsons' seems just as exciting because it's been crafted as "a love letter to the fantasy genre of books and movies and TV shows".

Simpsons executive producer Matt Selman made that bold statement to Entertainment Weekly, in addition to dropping some hints about Nikolaj's character.

"He plays a character not unlike Jaime," Selman teased. "He has a surprising and sexy connection to one of the main characters."

He'll be following in the footsteps of fellow Game of Thrones cast member Carice van Houten, who turned up in Springfield two years ago as Milhouse's Dutch cousin Annika.

The Simpsons' season 29 opener airs on Sunday, October 1 on Fox in the US and Sky1 airs the series in the UK. Game of Thrones continues on HBO on Sunday and Sky Atlantic on Monday.
