Everyone’s going to know Grace VanderWaal's name and style after her Cannes Film Festival debut!

The 20-year-old singer and actress — who rose to fame when she won America's Got Talent in 2016 at age 12 — turned heads at the premiere of her new movie, Megalopolis, in a mature look, reminding fans that she’s all grown up!

VanderWaal, who wanted to channel her character, Vesta Sweetwater, on the carpet, wore a sheer bridal look consisting of a vintage Cinema by Panos Zinas gown styled by Janelle Best of Desert Star Vintage, a boutique in Brooklyn, New York.

The design featured a deep V-neckline, sheer midriff panel and nude skirt, and both looked like they were covered in liquid gold thanks to the sequin detailing. The gown was accessorized with a custom floor-length couture veil adorned with gold leaf appliqués by NK Bride. The romantic headpiece topped her sleek updo.

VanderWaal walked the carpet alongside her co-stars, Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Chloe Fineman, Shia LaBeouf, Laurence Fishburne and Jon Voight.

Megalopolis was born from director Francis Ford Coppola’s desire to make a movie about a collapsing empire based on a moment from Roman history called the Catilinarian Conspiracy.

He began research for the Roman-inspired sci-fi movie in the late 1970s after he finished Apocalypse Now. And after many delays and false starts — including 300 script rewrites — and $120 million from Coppola’s own funds spent to get the project rolling, the dystopian film finally premiered at Cannes on May 16.

This movie marks VanderWaal’s third film since she got into acting after starting her music career, which includes two EPs and one studio album.

She first starred in the 2020 Disney+ film, Stargirl, and then its sequel, Hollywood Stargirl, in 2022.

Like her resume, VanderWaal's style has evolved over the years as she’s matured her wardrobe from the cutesy pre-teen outfits fans knew her for.

She’s experimented with many aesthetics, from preppy-core to grunge-core. She's also embraced the latter quite a few times by transforming her signature golden blonde bob with different colors (including teal and platinum blonde) and cuts, such as the shaved head she rocked in 2020.

Now, it seems like VanderWaal has landed on a sexy bohemian-meets-coquette vibe that mostly consists of whimsical gowns, bold suits and sexy minidresses. And her big Cannes style moment is only an indication of where her fashion sense is headed.
