You have to go as far back as 1997 for the last time the United Kingdom won the Eurovision Song Contest. That's 20 years ago.

Graham Norton, however, doesn't think our luck will change this year.

The Eurovision commentator said that "anything can happen" on the night, but played down the UK representative Lucie Jones' chances, after suffering years and years of disappointment in the competition.

"I'm just not sure it will happen for us this year. I mean, I could be wrong as Germany have won, Austria have won. So I suppose people who never win, win," he said (via the Daily Star).

"On the night, anything can happen. I'm just not sure it will for us, though."

Lucie was voted by viewers as the UK's next big musical hope at this year's contest, and heads to Ukraine on May 13.

Although she has already performed 'Never Give Up on You' on Eurovision: You Decide, the singer has said that she's considering making tweaks to the song before the big night.

"That's the great thing about social media," she said.

"Everyone's loving the song but we're definitely listening to people when they say they want slight changes and the record producers and the BBC are looking into it – so we'll see."

Last year, the UK's Joe and Jake finished in 24th place out of 26 competitors. And in 2015, Electro Velvet ended up 24th out of 27.
