Yahoo News Grammys: Billy Joel Performs New Single “Turn the Lights Back On,” Closes Show With Classic Hit “You May Be Right”
Billy Joel took the stage to perform at the Grammy Awards for the first time in more than two decades on Sunday night.
Living up to his Piano Man nickname, he sat behind a piano to perform “Turn the Lights Back On,” his new single — and his first in decades — which was released Feb. 1. He was backed by a string orchestra as he sang the song at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The singer closed out the show with his classic hit “You May Be Right,” following Celine Dion’s presentation of the album of year award to Taylor Swift. The lively performance featured him again behind a piano.
Joel, 74, last performed at the Grammys in 2002, when he and Tony Bennett duetted on “New York State of Mind.”
Over the course of his career, Joel has earned a total of 23 Grammy nominations, winning five, including album of the year and best male pop vocal performance for 52nd Street, song of the year and record of the year for “Just the Way You Are” and best male rock vocal performance for Glass Houses. In 1991, he was presented with the Grammy Legend Award.
Other performers at the 66th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday included Miley Cyrus, U2, Burna Boy, Luke Combs, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Joni Mitchell and Travis Scott, among others.
The 2024 Grammys aired live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+, with Trevor Noah as host for the fourth consecutive year.
