Day three of the Grand National Festival at Aintree Racecourse brings with it the big one, the showpiece, the Grand National 2024.

32 runners will do battle over the gruelling 16-fence course with sights on the £1 million prize package, but that is not the only money on the line. Plenty of punters flocking to Liverpool and many more watching from the comfort of home may feel inclined to 'have a flutter' and prove exactly why the day is one of the biggest for betting all year.

Up to 70,000 will in attendance to witness events on Grand National Day, and will be treated to a full day featuring seven races in total. As part of that schedule, the Grand National is scheduled to take place at 4pm.

Grand National - favourites to win

The main event of the weekend, the Grand National is a handicap steeplechase, which sees horses provided with a predetermined weight to level the field beforehand.

At the time of writing 2023 winner Corach Rambler is the 5/1 favourite, followed by I am Maximus at 7/1, Meetingofthwaters at 8/1. Vanillier is a 9/1 shot, with Kitty's Light dropping to 11/1 on the same odds as Panda Boy.

Best each-way bets for Grand National

With 34 horses going, it could be anybody's race, as shown by 2022 winner Noble Yeats who came in at 50/1. Two years on there are more smart picks to be had back in the field, starting with Paul Kealy's 25/1 shot Delta Work.

If you're feeling a little braver, another option from Kealy's stable worth considering could be Desertmore House at 40/1.

What is each-way betting?

Each-way betting (often shown as EW, or E/W) and is particularly associated with horse racing events, such as the Grand National Festival. It is another option for punters to utilise when races have big fields.

An each-way bet consists of two equal parts - the first is the 'win bet', and the other is the 'place bet'. If your selection wins then you are paid returns for both parts of the bet, and if your selection places only the winnings for the 'place bet' are returned.

Which finishing places will bookies pay out on?

Typically bookies tend to pay out on up to five or even six places for the Grand National itself, given the larger field in that particular event. For the other races across the festival, it depends on how many runners there are.

Fewer horses likely means that three or maybe less places will be paid out on. Before you place a bet, it should be made clear how many places the chosen bookmaker count as an each-way winner.
