It was announced earlier this year that The Greatest Dancer would not be returning to the BBC for a third series.

The Simon Cowell show, that featured judges Cheryl and Strictly Come Dancing pro Oti Mabuse, struggled with ratings and wasn’t renewed.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about how he felt about the cancellation, host Jordan Banjo said: "Gutted of course.

He continued: "Everyone who watched the show really liked it, just not enough people watched it to be blunt.

"That’s the problem, it’s such a big show, there’s so many people involved, there’s a huge effort that goes into it so when it’s not landing how it should it’s going to be a tough call. Lockdown happened and it’s made everyone’s decision.

"Greatest Dancer is about the audience and I think that’s why the audience who watched it really connected with it. Everyone had a hand with picking up the phone and voting.

"If you can’t have an audience, you are going to have a problem and I think as soon as the pandemic hit, it was a write off. Technically we’d be recording auditions in a week and that’s not feasible so I feel the decision was make for everyone.”

He added: "It’s gutting but I’m proud of what we did. Not many people watched it, but those who did watch it loved it and that’s just the way it goes.

"I really enjoyed the show, it was a feel good show and I feel like everyone who watched it, it was so rare to get actual criticism. Of course you get people saying stupid things online but in terms of genuine critique and people not liking it, I never saw much of that."

Jordan and fellow Diversity star Perri Kiely are taking over Kiss Radio’s breakfast show after almost two years of presenting a weekend show.

Speaking of the pressure of getting people ready for the day, Jordan said: "People are waking up with us in the morning so we don’t want it to be 'HI! WIN 20 GRAND', we want people to feel that their boys are here and we’re having a chat and getting you through that part on the day."

Dancing On Ice star Perri added: "What we have on the outside is what we have on the show.

"We hang out together, talking, making jokes, listening to music, we do that on an every day basis so the fact that we can come to Kiss and do that, and make everyone feel at home and welcome is what a radio station should be. It’s natural for us."

Kiss Breakfast with Jordan and Perri launches on Monday, 3 August.
