A GREEN Party candidate has said he is ‘disappointed’ with the election result as he looks set to lose out in Bournemouth East.

Joe Salmon told the Daily Echo that it was ‘wonderful to see so many people have voted for me’ but that he wouldn’t have stood if he didn’t think he could’ve won.

“I'm gutted,” he said.

“I feel like I've let people down. So, a lot of things I really wanted to be able to do in parliament.

“Gaza was a big one of them, sorting out the NHS, I feel like I've let my colleagues down in a lot of respects.

“We need proper reform in the NHS and we're not going to get that with a Labour government.

“Very depressing, the prospect of five more years of more austerity, continued purchase of provider split.”

Mr Salmon said that the response from members of the public was ‘lovely’ during his campaign.

“People in Bournemouth are nice.

“Even with people who don't agree with me and can't stand my opinions, they've got a lot of time to hear them still, all of that. I like banging on the doors.

“I love this town. That's just a real shame that it's not a result I would have liked.

“But we're going to see a shake of a dice anyway. We'll see what changes.

“It would have been nice to hear from either of the candidates who looks like going to be successful from Bournemouth, that they were committed to restoring the council's funding back to where it would have been, pre-austerity levels.

“We'll miss that money, we miss that money as it is.”

The BCP Council councillor added: “I am going nowhere.”
