A recent wedding took an unexpected turn when the father of the groom stopped his son to deliver breaking news - the latest score from an Arsenal match. Matt, @MBEdits7 on Twitter / X, found himself at the centre of a viral moment when his dad couldn't resist sharing a big update from the football, despite the important occasion.

The incident occurred last Sunday, April 28, as Matt and his wife, both hardcore Arsenal fans, were leaving the church after exchanging vows. With Arsenal leading the North London derby against Tottenham 3-0 at the 38th minute mark, Matt's dad couldn't contain his excitement and decided to break the news.

The video quickly spread across Twitter / X, having been viewed by more than 4 million people so far, and having 54,000 likes. In a follow-up tweet, Matt shared: “I just showed this to my dad in the front room and told him 'you’re going very viral' and he just took my phone and said 'what does that mean'. He’s extremely unbothered and that makes it funnier.”

Explaining the wedding day clash with the crucial football fixture on Twitter / X, Matt said that neither he nor his wife were aware of the scheduling conflict when they chose the date. However, they couldn't pass up the opportunity for a great deal on their venue.

The tweet took Twitter / X by storm, having even caught the attention of Arsenal Football Club itself. They tweeted: “Congratulations from everyone at Arsenal! A top day both on and off the pitch (heart emoji).”

Support poured in from fellow Arsenal fans, with messages of congratulations and admiration for Matt's dad's spontaneous interruption. @ArsenalSensible wrote: “Congrats Matt to you and your wife. This video made my DAY! Can't stop watching it. (happy smile emoji) And tell your dad what an awesome man he is.”

Even fans of rival teams offered their support! @DocDoLi tweeted: "Even as a Chelsea fan, I loved seeing this! Congrats to you on your big day and also congrats on the huge result! (saluting face emoji)”
