A Guide to Streamers’ Black Friday Holiday Deals

The long Thanksgiving weekend is a time for family, shopping, and yes, streaming.

For decades, the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, has been the busiest shopping day of the year. Stores across the country offer deals to eager shoppers getting a head start on their Christmas lists. These days, the shopping frenzy extends through the weekend and into what the e-commerce era has dubbed “Cyber Monday.” While no one does e-commerce quite like Amazon, there are a number of streamers getting ahead of the online-retail giant’s Prime Video service with discounts of their own.

More from IndieWire

While streaming services have spent most of 2023 raising prices, several are currently calling a truce with cost-conscious consumers — for the next few days, at least.

There are a few grinches among the bunch. Anyone looking for a Netflix, Disney+, or Apple TV+ deal is out of luck, we’re told; try Hulu, Peacock, Paramount+, and/or Max instead. IndieWire is feeling quite jolly, so we’ve put together a guide for all of the current streaming-subscription deals out there.

Hulu/Starz

Beginning at 12 a.m. PT on Tuesday, November 21 and ending at 11:59 p.m. PT on Tuesday, November 28, Hulu’s ad-supported plan will go on sale for $0.99 per month for 12 months. At $7 less than its normal $7.99-per-month pricing, the deal could save subscribers more than $80 annually.

In addition, new and existing Hulu subscribers can purchase the streamer’s Starz add-on for $0.99 per month, as opposed to its ordinary $8.99 price. The reduced Starz price will last six months, giving fans access to shows like “Outlander,” “P-Valley,” and “Minx.”

Peacock

Through Tuesday, November 27, Peacock is offering significantly reduced prices on its Premium, ad-free subscription tier. Ordinarily priced $5.99 monthly or $59.99 yearly, the deal will give customers the option to go monthly at $1.99/month or pay $19.99 up front for a year. The offer can be redeemed by using the codes BIGDEAL and YEARLONG on Peacock’s homepage.

Paramount+

Paramount+, home to “Star Trek” and Taylor Sheridan’s ever-expanding universe, is offering three months of the streamer’s Essential Plan or Paramount+ with Showtime Plan — both are 70 percent off. Using the code BLACKFRIDAY, new subscribers can get the Essential plan for $1.99/month; the Showtime plan is $3.99 per month. The offer expires December 3.

Max

Through Monday, December 7, Max will offer new subscribers its ad-supported plan at $2.99 per month. The tier normally costs $9.99/month, making for another 70 percent discount. The discount expires after six months, so start bingeing “Succession” this weekend.

Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video has not (yet) announced a Black Friday or Cyber Monday deal for this holiday season. However, the host for the NFL’s first-ever Black Friday game, an AFC East-matchup between the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins, is making the game available for non-subscribers to stream. We’re told that special deals will be unveiled during the game’s broadcast, so keep an eye on that one — even if it quickly turns into a Dolphins (-7.5) blowout.
