Gunshots Fired During Student Protests Over Cancelled Exams in Mogadishu

At least one person was killed in clashes with security forces as students rallied in protest in Mogadishu, Somalia, on May 14, after government authorities cancelled national exams, according to local reports.

Somalia’s Ministry of Education cancelled the national secondary exams across the country after copies of the tests leaked on social media. News reports said the exams will be held between May 27 and 31, and goverment officials said there will be a five-day social media blackout to try to prevent another leak.
