Gunshots Heard After Breonna Taylor Protesters Rock Police Vehicle in Louisville

At least seven people were injured during a protest against the police-involved shooting death of Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky, late on May 28 into May 29, when gunfire erupted during the protest.

The shots were fired as protesters attempted to tip over an armored vehicle, according to the Courier Journal. The report said the police fired paintballs.

The demonstration, comprising 500 to 600 people, began peacefully, but police later clashed with protesters, deploying tear gas and rubber bullets. The Courier Journal reported some property damage by protesters. A number of arrests were made, according to police.

As tensions ratcheted up, Breonna Taylor’s family took to social media to appeal for calm, with a video of their statement shared by Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.
