A popular Midlothian cafe has announced its sudden closure leaving locals gutted.

The Sky High Cafe located within Ryze Edinburgh made the sad news on social media and said they were "devastated" to be closing up shop within the premises. They stressed their sadness over the team losing their jobs.

They explained that their last trading day was on April 21, 2024, and that a new company is set to come in and take over the space.

Taking to social media, they said: "We would like to take this opportunity to tell you what has happened over the last few days.

"We need to stress that we are all so devastated that the team have lost their jobs and we are no longer in the premises. We have built this cafe and made a good reputation and also got so many regular customers that made our jobs amazing.

"But unfortunately, we were notified last week that our trading day would be Sunday past (April 21, 2024) as we were being evicted and a new company was taking over the space.

"We met so many lovely people over the last few years. We started sharing our space with local businesses such as baby and toddler group, fit steps, line dancing - to help the community.

"We started holding event nights for all of our customers. We have done so much and we have been treated like this and have lost our jobs and now also lost our customers. The new cafe won't be trading as The Sky High Cafe, they will be named as something else.

"We want to thank you all for your support over the years and also your custom. You have been amazing".

Locals have been left devastated by the cafe closure with one customer writing: "Oh no. I love coming to your cafe, everyone is so nice and friendly and the food and drinks has always been fab. Never found a fault, so sorry to hear this".

Another customer said: "My son loved your chicken nuggets, he will be gutted". Another previous customer wrote: "Such a shame to hear this. Hopefully it doesn't put you all down and you continue elsewhere doing what you all do best".

A spokesperson for Ryze Edinburgh, said: “Ryze prides itself on the high standards we set throughout the business. Due to these standards not being met, the owners of Sky High Café were given three months’ notice on their lease, however during this period the cafe opted for an earlier closure.

“Having now completed renovations of the cafe space, we are pleased to announce that new owners have taken on the lease and are confident that the Bounce House Café will provide the level of service and quality that our customers deserve.”
