Huddersfield Town captain Jonathan Hogg insists he “had no doubt at all” about extending his stay with the Terriers after signing a new one-year contract with the club. The 35-year-old is set to embark on his 12th season with Town upon signing his new deal, having joined the Terriers from Watford in 2013.

The club confirmed in their retained list last month that they were in discussions with the out-of-contract midfielder about extending his spell at the John Smith’s Stadium, with Hogg having now put pen to paper on a new deal.

“I had no doubt at all in my mind about extending my contract here,” Hogg told his club’s website. “I’ve said it before, but this is my club and I couldn’t picture myself playing anywhere else now.

“Having been here over a decade, I know Town in good times and bad, and while the past couple of seasons haven’t gone to plan, I’m determined to play my part in helping to put that right in whatever way I can.

“Speaking to both Mark (Cartwright) and Michael (Duff) about their plans for the future, that’s something I want to be part of. Whenever I’m called on, I will continue to give everything I have for Huddersfield Town, just as I have since the day I arrived almost 11 years ago.”

Hogg has featured 365 times for Town in all competitions in his 11 seasons to date, placing him 12th in the club’s all-time appearance list. The midfielder began his career at Aston Villa before joining Watford in 2011, where he spent two years before embarking on his lengthy spell with the Terriers.

Hogg has been the club’s captain for the past three seasons, and the 35-year-old is now set to lead the Terriers into their upcoming League One campaign.

“Jonathan is the embodiment of the spirit and professionalism we want to see across the squad, and his influence is priceless both on and off the field,” Town’s sporting director Cartwright said. “A natural leader who is fiercely passionate about his club, we are delighted to keep him with us and have him contribute to the vision and standards we want to set next season across not only the first team, but academy too.”

Aside from out-of-contract players being released, Hogg’s new deal is the first piece of squad-related business that has been completed by the Terriers since Duff’s appointment last month. Following the club’s relegation last term, the Terriers are preparing for a first third-tier campaign since 2012, as they target an immediate return to the Championship.

Duff has stated that the skipper has an important role to play at the club this season upon penning his new deal.

“I’m extremely pleased to have Jonathan as part of our group next season, he’s been part of our plans in every conversation we’ve held since joining the club,” the head coach said. “I was lucky enough to play at a good level until my late thirties, so know the impact and difference that can be made through experience and leadership. Both on and off the pitch, Hoggy still has a huge part to play.”
