A Deacon Blue star has revealed he is "the happiest man in the world" after getting married earlier this week.

Dougie Vipond, who plays the drums for the Dignity hitmakers, announced that he tied the knot with his girlfriend Fiona on Monday, July 1.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Elderslie-born musician said: "So this happened yesterday. Fiona made me the happiest man in the world when she agreed to be Mrs V."

The couple received more than 200 messages of congratulations in the comments.

Clare Grogan, Gregory's Girl actress and lead singer of Altered Images, said: "Congratulations."

Fans of Deacon Blue, which rose to fame with their debut album, Raintown, in 1987 also shared their well wishes.

One person said: "How lovely. You both look so happy, I have a wee tear in my eye. So happy for you Dougie."

A second wrote: "So nice to hear happy news - just lovely. Congratulations to you both."

A third commented: "Fantastic. Many congratulations to you both."
