Harry Potter: JK Rowling Admits Romance Mistake

Harry Potter creator JK Rowling has admitted she may have got a key romance in the wizard series all wrong.

Heroine Hermione Granger's coupling with flame-haired Ron Weasley left some fans reeling - they wanted to see her paired with the franchise's protagonist, played by Daniel Radcliffe in the hit films.

Now Rowling has admitted her error.

"I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfilment," she told lifestyle magazine Wonderland, which is guest-edited by Hermione actress Emma Watson for the upcoming issue.

"That's how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.

"I know, I'm sorry, I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I'm absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that.

"It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility.

"Am I breaking people's hearts by saying this? I hope not."

The author has said Hermione and Ron, played by Rupert Grint, would have likely have needed relationship counselling.

But the pairing clearly did not affect the success of the franchise; Rowling's Harry Potter novels have sold more than 450 million copies around the world and have been translated into 77 languages.

The books were adapted into eight Warner Bros feature films, which has become the highest-grossing film series in history.
