Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, James Norton... there's been loads of talk over who will play the next James Bond when Daniel Craig eventually hangs up his tuxedo – but the latest rumour is sure to shake (and stir) things up a bit with a younger audience.

According to Spectre's film editor Lee Smith, former One Direction star Harry Styles could well take on the role of 007 after his success in last year's Dunkirk.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Smith said: "Harry could do it. If they wanted a younger Bond then why not? He has got it."

And it would make sense, as Dunkirk director Christopher Nolan has been tipped to helm the next Bond film.

"Harry is really good and he can go all the way," Smith continued. "He is an exceptional talent and a complete natural on camera.

"You would have thought you were dealing with a guy with many years of experience. You would never know that was his first film. I didn't know who Harry was.

"Of course my daughter explained to me that you don't get any more famous than Harry Styles. But he was really good and a genuinely charismatic fellow.

"If he wants to act, I cannot imagine he would not have a great future."

It comes after Bond producer Barbara Broccoli revealed that they won't rule out the possibility of a black or female 007 in a future movie.

"These films tend to reflect the times, so we always try to push the envelope a little bit. Anything is possible," she explained.

"Right now it's Daniel Craig, and I'm very happy with Daniel Craig, but who knows what the future will bring?"

Meanwhile, Idris Elba has been pretty pessimistic about playing 007 in the future, saying that "no-one wants it" – and explaining why he's not a fan of the speculation that he'll take on the part.

"It's interesting that the James Bond thing continues to go. I think it's more about, 'We just want to have a black guy play James Bond rather than Idris Elba, the actor, play James Bond.' That's the part that I'm like, 'Ugh, come on,'" Idris admitted.

The current 007 Daniel Craig agreed to return for the sequel to Spectre back in August, after nearly two years of refusing to commit to his future as Bond.

But even though he'll be back to play 007 for a fifth time, Craig did hint that Bond 25 might be his final mission, saying: "I just want to go out on a high note, and I can't wait."

The currently-untitled James Bond 25 will be released in US cinemas on November 8, 2019, with a "traditional earlier release" in the UK to be announced in the months to come.
