The four-part drama tells the story of the Hatton Garden robbery in April 2015, when a group of elderly men broke into safes and stole contents totally millions of pounds.

Written by Jeff Pope, the cast includes well-known actors including Timothy Spall and David Hayman.

What is it all about?

Based on the true story of the high-profile heist, Hatton Garden dramatized the pensioners’ plans in gaining access to the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Ltd premises before drilling through to get to the boxes full of precious cargo. It took a couple of attempts but the gang made away with a hefty sum in cash, diamonds and other jewels after a trip to a hardware store, minus ringleader Brian Reader.

Who is in the cast?

Harry Potter star Timothy Spall stars as Terry Perkins. Perkins, who suffered a diabetic episode during the heist, died behind bars in February 2018.

Brían F O’Byrne plays Basil, the man recruited to help disable the alarms. Basil, real name Michael Seed, was jailed in March 2019.

Ringleader Brian Reeder, who was jailed for six years and three months after pleading guilty, is played by Kenneth Cranham while Alex Norton plays Kenny Collins, David Hayman is Danny Jones and Geoff Bell is Carl Wood.

Wasn’t this supposed to air before?

A couple of times, actually – both times the show was temporarily spiked due to trials of the assailants. In December 2017, the drama was pulled from schedules when Perkins was about to stand trial for an unrelated robbery.

The drama was postponed again when Seed – Basil – was caught and trialled.

When is it on?

Hatton Garden begins tonight at 9pm on ITV, airing nightly until Thursday. It will be available on ITV Hub.
