Yahoo News Heartstopper's Joe Locke makes Broadway debut in Sweeney Todd: The Musical
Heartstopper star Joe Locke has made his Broadway debut with his role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Last month, it was confirmed that the actor would be treading the boards in the US, taking on the part of Tobias Ragg in the classic musical.
Locke made his debut last night (January 31), later sharing an Instagram post that includes pictures of him in character with co-stars, as well as the show's programme and a clip of him taking his first bow.
"Little Joe would be happy rn," the actor captioned the post.

The revival of the Stephen Sondheim musical has been running since last year at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, with Locke taking over the role of Ragg from Stranger Things' Gaten Matarazzo.
He joins the show (officially from February 9) alongside Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster, who play Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovett. They themselves replace original stars Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford.
The story follows the titular Fleet Street barber and his tale of bloody revenge in 1840s London as he uses his barber shop to dispatch his enemies, while Mrs Lovett stuffs pies with the newly available meat.

Locke is perhaps best known for playing Charlie Spring in Netflix's Heartstopper, which premiered its second season last year.
He'll soon appear in Marvel's Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and last June spoke about how the series will resonate with LGBTQ+ fans.
"The show is about misunderstood people and people who are alienated by their society for reasons that they can't control. I think that resonates a lot with the queer community," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I think there'll be some camp."
Heartstopper seasons 1-2 are streaming on Netflix. Season 3 is in production.
